Now-a-days porn can be found anywhere. The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) is an organization that works to fight and expose companies, networks, and people that profit and promote sexual exploitation. Every year they come out with a list of twelve companies who have been caught doing this very thing. For the year 2023 the following companies were listed:
- Apple App Store
- Discord
- eBay
- Kik
- Microsoft's GitHub
- OnlyFans
- Roblox
- Snapchat
And last but not least...Spotify. Yes, Spotify is a music service where consumers can listen to all their favorite songs and podcasts. So how is it possible that porn is so easy to spot on their platform?
"Pornography...can be easily found on Spotify in the form of thumbnails graphically depicting sexual activity and nudity, as well as “audio pornography” (recordings of sex sounds or sexually explicit stories read aloud). Spotify claims to prohibit sexually explicit content, but clearly this policy is very poorly enforced."
There was even a high-profile case reported of a child being groomed and sexually exploited on Spotify. Their predators would come up with ways to communicate, most of the time by editing playlist titles. These messages would ask the child to upload sexually explicit content of themselves.
The sad thing is that companies like Spotify are doing little to nothing to make this go away. They continue to turn a blind eye to the hundreds of thousands of people whose lives are being destroyed through their platforms.
NCOSE has made it their mission to help these victims and demand these companies to take a stand against this cycle of violence. You too can help!
