Quick Report on the Fall Anti-pornography Conference

The fall anti-pornography conference held Saturday, November 14 in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Rexburg provided a new perspective on the harmful effects of pornography. It was well-attended--about 560 in all. The conference, with keynote speaker Dr. Hilton, was full of both research on cutting edge scientific findings and hope for those entangled in the snares of addiction. Dr. Hilton pointed out that pornography addictions affect the brain in the same way that drugs do. Brain scans of pornography addicts and drug addicts look identical—brain damage occurs in both instances.

There was much more to the conference that can’t be summarized here, so the transcript of his talk will be made available. Additionally, the whole conference was videotaped with a broadcast-quality HD video camera. The DVD will become available for sale as soon as possible. Check back on the website for updated information on both the transcripts and the DVD.

Overall, the conference seemed to be a success, opening many peoples’ eyes to pornography’s harmful effects. Listeners felt the need to learn more following the conference. All books authored by keynote speaker, Dr. Donald Hilton’s books sold out and put on back order.

The media was kind as they provided thousands of dollars of free education and advertising about our conferences. The week following the conference, it was covered on several TV stations, and in many newspapers, including the Salt Lake Tribune.

As good comes from these efforts, it is obvious that we alone do not amount to very much. All recognition goes to a loving Heavenly Father, good people such as Dr. Hilton and his wife, and 50+ persons who donated time, effort, and resources to allow this to come together.

Please continue to follow and help Citizens for Decency in efforts to take a united stand against pornography. Stay posted for the next conference.

Thanks to Patrick Trueman and Daniel Weiss who made it possible that our CEO was interviewed by the nationally-recognized Focus on the Family radio which broadcast Monday November 17. And for more from Dr. Hilton, a 24-minute professionally recorded interview of him will air on BYU TV in February 2010.
